Married Houston Dash couple takes on haters

The wedding of Houston Dash teammates Erin McLeod and Ella Masar was pitch-perfect. Love overflowed on social media for the gorgeous brides and stunning venue, except when it really, really didn’t. That's OK; they handled that with grace too.

The pair of gay pro soccer jocks hit just about every right note during their July 8 wedding ceremony.

In addition to being an openly lesbian soccer star, Masar is also known for her deep Christian faith. Since coming out, she has written extensively about how it relates to being out and to her relationship with McLeod.

“Erin, as an agnostic, has shown me the strength of always choosing hope and to believe no matter what, how judgment gets us nowhere and everyone has some good in them. She has shown me that even when we feel defeated and broken, tomorrow is always a new day and that to make someone sel smile is one of the greatest gifts that we have as a human being. Lastly, she has shown me that true selfless love never fails.”

After coming out but especially after the announcement of their nuptials, most fans expressed congratulations. But a few fans on the religious right and the wrong side of history offered prayers for Masar’s redemption instead.

Undeterred, Masar fired back with yet another gorgeous wedding pic and some choice words for her naysayers.

Amen, indeed. You go, girl and congratulations! We have a feeling this local lesbian jock power marriage will turn out better than that other one, which went sour, got sweet again, and is teaching us all how to spell D-I-V-O-R-C-E.
