Lane Lewis, the gay chair of the Harris County Democratic Party, will make a second run at the Houston City Council, this time hoping to capture at-large position.

Lewis announced his 2015 campaign on Wednesday, according to the Houston Chronicle:

Lewis, who has led the county’s party operation since 2011, is running to succeed Stephen Costello in At-Large Position 1, one of two open-seat at-large races next year. Lewis will remain party chair during his campaign.

Several other candidates already have appointed campaign treasurers in advance of runs for at-large positions, though only Philippe Nassif, a local Democratic activist, has specified that he will run for Position 1.

Lewis confirmed the announcement with a brief Facebook post on Thursday.

The former teacher and chair of the Houston GLBT Political Caucus campaigned for a post on the 16-person council in 2009, but lost the District A race in a runoff. After that race, he served as chair for Senate District 15 and in December 2011, he was elected unanimously to chair the county's Democratic party.
