Karla Drenner wants your feedback–really

imageWhen lawmakers at the Gold Dome aren’t fully occupied with instituting a poll tax on strippers or criticizing research on oral sex and male prostitutes, a few of the more responsible ones actually do something worthwhile — they step out from the legislative bubble and meet with constituents.

That’s exactly what state Rep. Karla Drenner, the Gold Dome’s only openly gay lawmaker, is doing on Tuesday.

Drenner is scheduled to join other members of the DeKalb County legislative delegation Tuesday at 7 p.m. for a town hall with residents. The session takes place at the DeKalb Tech Conference Center in Clarkston.

Drenner, in her fourth term, now sits on several influential committees in the Georgia House. To start the legislative session last month, she was named to Rules; Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications; Health & Human Services; Natural Resources & Environment and the Jekyll Island Oversight Committee.

“I believe that all of us here should keep the interests of all Georgians in mind,” Drenner said in a prepared statement. “My seat on the Rules Committee will let me do that. All of these committees will offer me a great challenge over the next two years. I believe I am up to what’s required and hope that my colleagues and I can work for a better Georgia.”
