imageYet another appreciative crowd packed Kai Lin Art on Friday for the opening of its “Flora” spring show. The flower-power exhibit opened at the gay-owned space featuring interpretations of the theme by four artists.

The contemporary art in the exhibit may have taken a nod from the “Flora” title, but the multi-discipline, multi-medium works were anything but the still-lifes your grandma likes to display.

Widely varied pieces by artists Anne Elser, Karen Divine, Drew Watts and newcomer Lucha Rodriguez drew inspiration from florals and drew in art lovers and cocktail minglers alike, despite the proverbial rainy night in Georgia.

imageThe venue known as much for its hip gay following as its fresh take on art appears to have another hit on its hands with this, its 15th exhibit since opening in 2009. We have watched the gallery itself blossom like “Flora” at openings for such creatively themed shows as “Earth,” “Joy,” “Monsters” and “Popstars and Cokeheads,” to name but a few.

“Flora” runs through May 27.
