A federal judge on Monday again smacked down a metro Atlanta high school student who was sacked as a student leader after proposing that the school’s prom be more welcoming to gay couples.

Turns out that Alpharetta High School’s prom already had no gender restrictions, so Reuben Lack’s effort was for naught. And U.S. District Judge Richard Story agreed with school officials who argued that Lack was dropped as student body president over poor leadership and not his gay-friendly proposal.

Story summed it up after a court hearing on Monday: “It is time to close this chapter in your life and move on,” the judge told Lack.

James Radford, Lack’s attorney, tweeted that the decision was “disappointing.”

Disappointing outcome in Reuben Lack case, but remain proud of my client for fighting for what he believes in. He has a very bright future.

In March, Story said the case didn’t have “a substantial likelihood of success” and declined to issue a temporary restraining order and return Lack to his student leader post.
