The organizers of Joining Hearts grabbed hoses and sponges to raise funds for their signature event, which draws hundreds of people each July to the pool of Piedmont Park.
But there was no pool in sight on June 12, when the group’s volunteers took to the parking lot of Nickiemoto’s in Midtown for a car wash fundraiser. The group came away with $850, which helps offset the cost of staging the group’s main event and allows them to donate 100 percent of ticket sales and tips to their beneficiaries, according to Ben Hadsock, Joining Heart’s president.
The main event — Splash — is set for July 24 with DJ Roland Belmares. In its 22-year history, the summer event has donated more than $1.02 million to AID Atlanta and Jerusalem House. More than 1,000 people were on hand last summer for the sold-out event, which also featured Belmares.
On July 11, Joining Hearts benefits from Dine Out @ Woofs. Some 20 percent of food sales are donated to benefit the organization. On July 18, Joining Hearts hosts a Patron & Sponsor Appreciation Party.
