When CNN Atlanta gay Don Lemon isn’t getting the gay love, being lusted after, going on holigay, writing a book or sexing up muscle men, he’s apparently a big fat racist. Geez, everyone’s a critic.

So say a handful of his 134,196 followers on Twitter, including marty ray:

@donlemoncnn a comment?…OK…it is clear that Don Lemon is a racist. Ignoring evidence yet reporting lies….that is RACIST

The firestorm kicked up as Lemon was conducting an interview on CNN about the Trayvon Martin case. Apparently his critics think he’s the only black journalist in America covering this story.

One such instant cable news parable occurred Sunday night, when CNN’s Don Lemon was interviewing commentator-about-town Goldie Taylor about the social faultlines this case has exposed, and casually said, as an aside, “please don’t send me any more tweets that by having this conversation, I’m a racist.”

After a commercial break, Lemon revealed that someone on Twitter had responded by saying “Don Lemon, you are a racist. You are fixated on this one issue over and over. We want to hear the news, not your personal agenda. Go work for BET.”

That exchange unleashed the underbelly of Twitter, prompted some news coverage and got Lemon tweeting some more.

why i retweet the hateful tweets: i want us all to see what our own words look like when we read them back. #SocialMediaMirror

Lemon seems to be taking the venom in stride.

Thanks for well wishes, but hate tweets don’t get me down. Only motivates me. Join me in creating the #SocialMediaMirror by retweeting hate.

So is Lemon a racist? Someone should probably tell his boyfriend Ben Tinker, who is white. FYI.
