How to work it at the Purple Dress run [photos]

Picture this: Burly gay rugby players in dresses. Yes, the season is over, the skills sessions are done, the beer has been busted and the Atlanta Bucks are slipping into their best (and worst) purple dresses on Saturday.

It’s the 6th Annual Purple Dress Run, the largest fundraiser the gay rugby squad hosts all year. It’s a mix of players, fans and just cocktailing gays looking to support a good cause. And cocktail. The pack will number more than 100 – 150 in 2010 and 125 in 2009 – and start with stretching (and cocktailing) at Mixx, then run, jog and walk to the Nook, then Joe’s, Blake’s and Fifth Ivory before ending at the Eagle.

The event benefits Lost N Found, a non-profit that provides shelter for homeless LGBT youth, and the Bucks, who are taking a squad to the Bingham Cup in June.

But we said purple dresses, right? We did. It’s not an easy look to pull off, so we combed through our archives from past runs to offer some advice, snark and tips on what works and what doesn’t. So make sure to click through our gallery below and then get to registering. The event starts on Saturday at noon.
