Hotlanta Softball hosts rookie clinic

The Hotlanta Softball League’s Venom gathered on a few fields at the Metro Atlanta Softball Complex on Campbellton Road earlier today for its annual clinic to offer pointers to new players and a tune up for veterans.

HSL opens its 27th season on March 30 when dozens of teams converge on the softball complex in southwest Fulton County. Among them will be the Venom and two other HSL teams that won titles at the Gay Softball World Series last October.

Today, the focus was on fundamentals. The annual clinic offers instruction in pitching and catching, batting and fielding. The weekend’s weird weather impacted the turnout, which usually numbers more than four dozen. But tips were plentiful.

A similar clinic for the National Flag Football League of Atlanta, scheduled for Saturday, was reset for March 15. Cold temperatures, rain and snow convinced organizers to postpone the event.
