A half-dozen male jocks on Parkview High School's renown baseball team are under investigation for hazing teammates, including one upperclassman suspected of sexually assaulting a freshman.

Six upperclassman entered three hotel rooms of incoming freshman players on Friday while the team was in Charleston, S.C., for a tournament. Once inside, the older teens wrestled with the younger students, and one made “inappropriate physical contact” with one of the freshman, according to a statement from Gwinnett County Public Schools.

The allegations of hazing were first reported by WSB on Tuesday.

When coaches learned of the alleged misconduct late Friday, it was reported to school administrators and an investigation was launched. The school system says it notified Gwinnett police of the incident and investigation.

The Panthers, considered one of the best teams in the country, won the Class AAAAAA state championship in May.

The full statement from Gwinnett schools:

“Parkview High School is investigating allegations of misbehavior of six upperclassmen toward younger students during a baseball tournament  that was held in Charleston, SC. It is alleged that the older students entered approximately three hotel rooms of incoming freshmen players on Friday evening and began to wrestle with the younger students. This was discovered later Friday night as coaches were checking on the players. In addition, an allegation was made of inappropriate physical contact by an older student toward one of the freshmen. The coach reported this allegation to the Athletic Director and administrators so that an investigation could begin.

The school is actively investigating this situation and will take appropriate action based on the findings of the investigation. School Police have been notified and upon completion of their investigation will share information with the appropriate jurisdictional authority.”
