Heretic bans smoking in most areas of bar

You can't smoke at Atlanta Pride and now the Heretic is snuffing out your gay vice, too: The venerable gay bar is going mostly smoke free so take note, gays who puff and cocktail. The bar's general manager, Alan Collins, made the announcement in a six-paragraph post on Friday:

LIMITED SMOKING IN HERETIC STARTING MARCH 1ST!! No, you don't need to get your eyes checked, Yes, starting today, Heretic will have a designated smoking area located in the Pub Bar. Smoking will no longer be allowed in any other area, including dance floor, sanctuary bar, dance floor bathrooms, hall way, pool room, leather shop. Smokers - We realize this will be an adjustment but we hope you understand. We have struggled with this decision for months now and by providing a designated indoor area we hope to make the transition easier for everyone. Non-Smokers - Please tell all your friends who may have stopped coming due to the smoke, it's safe to return....well safer. No, it's not a total ban on indoor smoking, and yes you will probably still be able to smell some smoke coming from the Pub bar but, now you don't have to worry about getting burned by a cigarette while dancing or having smoke blown in your face. It's gonna take a while for everyone to get used to the new policy so If you see someone light up in the non smoking areas, BE NICE and point the way to the smoking area. We hope this will make everyone's experience at The Heretic more enjoyable. Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to serving all your nightlife needs. I welcome your comments. Please send comments in a message or email me directly at [email protected] Alan Collins General Manager.
Heretic joins the Jungle in curtailing smoking, which limited it to a sliver of space away from the dance floor as it embarked on a massive renovation late last year. Mixx and Cockpit are the city's other smoke-free LGBT bars. Gays in Atlanta smoke too much anyway. And we've included smoking among our six things to ban from gay Atlanta's bars for more than a year.
