Big winners on the LGBT and LGBT-adjacent fronts at Sunday’s Golden Globes may have made this year’s awards ceremony the gayest ever. Several of the gay-favorite nominees we previewed went home with the prize in major categories. One of the most tear-inspiring moments of the night came with actor Chris Colfer's win and acceptance speech (photo, video below) as Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy or Musical for his portrayal of Kurt on “Glee.” After thanking the show's creator Ryan Murphy for being his "fairy godfather," the actor dedicated his award to bullied teens “who are constantly told 'no' [by] people and environments and bullies at school, that they can't be who they are or can't have what they want because of who they are. Screw that, kids,” Colfer said. Colfers’ co-star, lesbian actor Jane Lynch, won the Golden Globe for Supporting Actress for playing Sue Sylvester on “Glee.” Lynch thanked her wife during her acceptance speech. The show itself won Best TV Comedy or Musical, beating the gay-inclusive “Modern Family,” among others. Perhaps the grandest victory came for “The Kids Are All Right.” Despite gay filmmaker Lisa Cholodenko not winning Best Screenplay and missing a nomination entirely in the director category, her movie won Best Film in its genre, and Annette Bening was named Best Actress for her portrayal of a lesbian mom. Other wins included gay actor Jim Parson as Best Actor in a TV Comedy or Musical playing an asexual (non-sexual?) nerd in “Big Bang Theory.” Best Song went to the writer of "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me,” as sung by Cher in "Burlesque." Natalie Portman won Best Actress in a Film Drama for "Black Swan," which featured a same-sexual dynamic between her character and that of actress Mila Kunis. Host Ricky Cervais’ shock-factor jokes may be among the other water cooler buzz on Monday. Mentioning that Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor were not nominated for “I Love You Phillip Morris,” Cervais said they are “Two heterosexual actors pretending to be gay…. so the complete opposite of some famous scientologists,” a reference to persistent rumors that John Travolta and Tom Cruise are gay.
