National media watchdog the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation hit Atlanta on Friday for another in its series of cocktail receptions and events to boost the group’s profile.
“Thank GLAAD It’s Friday” unfolded at Aurum and served as a festive warm-up for TakeOver Atlanta, which brought its upscale crowd to the same Midtown nightspot for one of its semi-regular evenings that also raised funds for Joining Hearts.
GLAAD’s no stranger to Atlanta. The group hosted its “Thank GLAAD” receptions last fall – first in October and then again in November – as well as in February and March 2009.
While guests mingle and nosh, prize drawings include gay-positive and gay-popular CDs and DVDs and one-year memberships to GLAAD. The evenings also provide an opportunity to get to know the mission of GLAAD, which keeps an eye on representations, commentary and coverage of LGBT people and issues in mainstream media.
If you missed last week’s event, don’t fret. You’ll get another chance in October. But first, start your preparation for the group’s annual “Splish” pool party in August. Last year’s event heated up an already sizzling summer of pool parties and gay soup made with an attractive mix of shirtless guys knocking back cocktails.
