Get to know the ‘A-List’ gay reality series cast

imageAfter more than a year of speculation, stops and starts, Logo debuts its gay “Real Housewives” takeoff in October, and the cast list is out—um, released. Meet the men who you’re sure to know much better soon.

In June 2009, rumor had it that a show might be called “Real Gay Housewives of New York.” Then in October, we showed you the ridiculous questions in a casting call for a show that was tentatively titled “Kept,” to signify that there’s a lot of money and daddy isn’t home.

Designer Marc Jacobs’ then-boyfriend was rumored to have been on the short list, but that rumor was dispelled. Good thing, too, because the Rachel Zoe bestie has had at least two more boyfriends since then.

In June 2010, our Afternooon Headline Ramble included the new and improved, if ironic, “A-List” name plus a list of the men who made the final cut. We also shared MovieLine’s “Three Better Ideas for an LGBT-based Reality Series.”

This week, the New York Post got up close and personal with the six men (top photo), including known quantities like photographer Mike Ruiz, as well as “Amazing Race” alumnus Reichen Lehmkuhl and his latest boyfriend. Several questions about their Reality TV dreams and expectations are mostly a yawn, but here are a few excerpts and a video preview so you can get acquainted.

Model turned fashion connoisseur

“It’s a ground-breaking program–no show has ever exclusively looked into the lives of gay men. We’re in the middle of a very fireblazing human rights movement right now, so it’s time that people see we’re not freaks or molesting young boys–we’re regular people too.”

imageRyan Nickulas, 30 ?
Salon owner

“I wanted to share my story because I think I have a lot to offer – especially to the younger gay men coming up. My best friend of 15 years works with me and is on the show — we haven’t seen the relationship between two gay best friends on reality TV before.”

imageDerek Lloyd Saathoff, 27 ?
Modeling agent

“I have a really great life. I’m out at night everywhere, going to events, live in a fabulous apartment in Chelsea – but also have the good boy mentality that comes from growing up in Kentucky. With me you’ll get an interesting look into an attractive, 27-year-old, gay man’s life that’s really struck gold in New York.”

imageMike Ruiz, 44 ?
Celebrity photographer with cameos on “America’s Next Top Model,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and “My Life on the D List”

“I was very nervous that this might come back and bite me in the ass. I’ve worked so hard to build the level of professional respect and integrity I have, but those feelings were dispelled early on because I’m just being myself and proud of how I conduct myself.”

imageReichen Lehmkuhl, 36 ?
Actor [Ha!]

“Every time I’ve done something exciting in my life, it’s been surrounding a reality television project. As much as I like to push my acting career and deny that I’m a reality star [right?], I have to acquiesce and say, ‘Alright, I am a reality TV name.’ I have to own it and be OK doing another reality show.”

imageRodiney “Rod” Santiago, 28 ?
Model, Reichen’s boyfriend

“My mom, she has no idea what a gay relationship is like, and it’s a good opportunity to show everyone that our relationships are the same as straight relationships.”

And finally, here’s the video clip to have you eagerly anticipating–or dreading–the Oct. 4 premiere on Logo (Atlanta’s Comcast channel 288):
