Get ready to rally for marriage, gay Atlanta

Attorney General Sam Olens, too busy writing that gay marriage isn't a “fundamental right” in Georgia, wouldn't meet with LGBT activists the last time they rallied. So they're trying again.

On Thursday – the day after Olens is expected to again explain why he's defending Georgia's gay marriage ban against a federal lawsuit challenging it – Georgia Equality is hosting gay marriage supporters for a rally at Atlanta City Hall. Not that Atlanta officials are fighting gay marriage – they love it, after all – but the building sits across the street from Olens' office. And last time, he refused to meet with protesters hoping to hand him more than 3,000 petitions calling on him to stop defending the state's marriage ban.

So this time around, they want to get a little rowdy with Rally for Marriage. Gay Atlanta last rallied over gay marriage in June 2013 when the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the federal Defense of Marriage Act.

The next response from Sam Olens to the legal challenge of the marriage ban is due to the court by October 22nd. Because of the recent Supreme Court actions, 36 states will soon have marriage equality. It is time for Georgia to stop defending its discriminatory ban and start respecting ALL Georgia families.

On Thursday, October 23, 2014 Georgia Equality will hold a rally on the steps of Atlanta City Hall–across the street from the Attorney General's office.

Join us as we demand an end to Georgia's discriminatory marriage ban.

The effort from Georgia Equality comes less than two weeks before the Nov. 4 election. The group has launched a big push to get LGBT voters to the polls. Why? Olens' opponent, Democrat Greg Hecht, says he'll drop the state's defense of the gay marriage ban. And Olens still sucks.

Georgia Equality's Rally for Marriage is scheduled for Thursday at 5 p.m. outside Atlanta City Hall.
