UPDATE: Date of the spring clinic has changed.
It’s time to dust off the gloves, put on the cleats and get ready for some softball. The Hotlanta Softball League is readying for its 27th season, though it will be tough to top the league’s success last year.
First up is filling the rosters of the nearly four-dozen teams that make up the league. To help, HSL is hosting three sign-up sessions. The first is this weekend – Sunday at 2 p.m. at Woofs. Additional registration events are Feb. 17 (Outwrite Bookstore & Coffeehouse, 12 p.m.) and Feb. 24 (Ansley Mall courtyard, 1 p.m.).
From there, the league takes up Spring Training with its annual clinic on
March 1. March 9. The six-hour seven-hour session reviews skills for rookies and serves as a warm-up for veterans. The season opens in late March.
Last October, three HSL teams captured division titles at the World Series, an annual event of the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance (NAGAAA). Some 185 teams from 30 cities – including 10 from Atlanta – competed in the event. The Atlanta Venom took the A title and the Wet Demons won the D title. On the women’s side, Atlanta Riptide won the A division to claim its first title, while Gamma Lite took third place in the D division.
