A 15-year-old north Georgia boy issued a passionate defense of LGBT equality and gay marriage in his hometown newspaper and this from a kid who wants to be mayor and talks politics with the Tea Party.
The Dalton Daily Citizen published the 8-paragraph letter from Christian Hurd on Sunday. He was responding to a letter from a week earlier from a guy distraught over how gay marriage was destroying the country. That, in turn, was a response from a woman who argued that her reading of the Bible turned up little on gay marriage and warning that Republicans should stop using it as a wedge issue. And that’s a lesson on the Opinion pages of small town newspapers.
But Hurd brought the passion and reason that will make your eyes moist and your heart warm knowing that this teen is an example of why the marriage equality debate is tilting to the gays.
The negative connotations of Democrats are completely unfair. The Republican Party has turned the focus away from the real issues that we face and moved it to these social views that play on emotions. They have manipulated the common people to voting for them, to have the mindset that foreigners, minorities, gays and liberals are the reason this country is falling apart and their life is being ruined. While Mr. CEO is making untold millions, he votes Republican to make sure those suffering American workers that support him don’t realize that he is the one ruining their lives.
No, no. It gets better.
It baffles that we are still fighting over marriage equality for our gay brothers and sisters today. If we are being punished by God for anything, sir, it’s for how we treat them. If you don’t want them to have the same rights you do you lack both empathy and the kindness our Lord taught. Men of quality do not fear equality.
Let that sink in. Tears. Told you.
Hurd’s critics howled “abomination.” Of course they did.
