Gay sundries shop Poster Hut closing for good

imageChalk up another change to the Cheshire Bridge landscape as the gift store Poster Hut calls it quits after 44 years. If you need some fetish wear or gag gifts, now’s the time to get them for a steal. Since the ‘60s, when poster-only specialty shops catered to the must-have accessory of every teen and pothead, Poster Hut went through a big gay ownership transition that changed the shop in the ‘70s to, according to its Yelp listing, “include a renowned card section perfect for any occasion, adult items, music, novelty items, paraphernelia, housewares, jewelry, Bachelor and Bachelorette party items and a clothing department encompassing only the trendiest in underwear, outerwear, leather and fetish wear.” The store and its empty parking lot have been part of gay Atlanta’s consciousness, if not a regular shopping stop, ever since. But the timing of the store’s closing, like its survival this long, is iffy. From Creative Loafing:

I called The Poster Hut to confirm the news of their closing, and almost did. Asked if they are, in fact, closing tomorrow night, the employee who answered the phone said he "thinks so." Atlanta Intown Paper says a going out of business is in progress, so stock up on discounted gifts for the fetishist on your list.
From the GA Voice:
The GA Voice also called and was told the owner would be in the store later this afternoon. The employee who answered the phone said the store is closing for sure and there is a going out of business sale going on now. But, he added, he did not know anything about the store closing tomorrow. "I know we're going out of business, but I don't know when," the employee said.
Some of Atlanta's LGBT-owned businesses are thriving and renovating; others not so much and are putting out the For Sale sign.
