Before you can have a Pride Superstar, you have to have a competition. But even before that, you have to have auditions. As any ‘Idol’ fan knows, that alone can be the best part.
Local LGBTs with pipes packed into South Beach on Saturday with their families and friends for a chance to compete weekly beginning May 5. Judges Joey Guerra and Tianna Hall put the hopefuls through their paces before selecting the Top 13 for the contest (top photo).
The selected bakers' dozen goes on to compete in an eight-week elimination process for the top prize of $1,000, free record studio time, and a headlining spot in the Pride Houston Festival. The weekly events feature challenging themes, guest judges and surprise performers. “RuPaul's Drag Race” alum Adore Delano helps kick off the competition on Tuesday.
This year's 13 finalists are Christopher Abide, Christian Balzano, Michael Chiavone, Melissa Darragh, David Dominguez, Ektor, Travis Herzog, Aminah Johnson, Whitney K. Lane, Gin Martini, Karlon Mitchell, Daniel Ortiz and Juan Pereyra.
