A 32-year-old gay Atlanta man was stabbed several times during a fight on a Midtown street last weekend and a witness helped detain his attacker as he tried to flee before police arrived. Atlanta police arrested Michael Taylor Zimmerman, 26, (photo) and charged him with three felonies -- aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery and possession of a knife during a crime. He remains in the Fulton County Jail without bond. Witnesses told police that they spotted Zimmerman fighting with Allen Fromherz at the intersection of Juniper and 5th streets in Midtown about 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 22. One man, stopped in his vehicle at a traffic light, said he heard Fromherz "yelling and screaming for help," according to an Atlanta police incident report. "He began blowing his horn and screaming for Zimmerman to stop. [He] stated that is when he called 911. [He] said Fromherz did get free and began to run towards [his] vehicle," according to the police report. Then Fromherz, covered in blood, collapsed on the hood of the man's car. Fromherz suffered several cuts to his face and arms. Paramedics transported him to Grady Memorial Hospital. A second witness, sitting inside a restaurant across Juniper, told police that he looked out a window and saw the two men fighting. When he went outside to try and break up the altercation, the man then kept Zimmerman from running away until police arrived. Police were not able to interview Fromherz at the scene, but said that he and Zimmerman knew one another. On Thursday, Fromherz declined to comment to Project Q Atlanta. A spokesperson for the Fulton County District Attorney could not be immediately reached on Friday.
