Gay Houston goes ice skating with ‘Rainbow’ flair

The gays pulled on their skates and took over Discovery Green on Thursday, injecting the seasonal skating rink with rainbow flair and even some flair.

Never seen a drag queen on ice? Violet S'Arbleu nailed it. As did Mix 96.5 FM host Chad Pitt and DJ Joe Ross (top photo) for Rainbow on Ice Skate & Smash. The LGBT celebration is a mix of dance party, skating and gaming. The Houston Gaymers hosted a big screen version of “Super Smash Bros.”

The evening also had a charity side as organizers collected toys for Texas Children's Hospital.

“Our annual Christmas Toy Drive program is always such a big hit with the wonderful people at Texas Children’s Hospital and I’m excited we are able to give back to the community in a larger scale with the help of Discovery Green,” Houston Gaymers Vice President Jacques Bourgeois said ahead of the event. “We all understand that it’s not just about the gifts that children receive under their tree – it is about the gift of hope that people really do care.”
