It’s been a tough week for gay-popular L.A. Fitness.
On Monday, the Irvine, Calif.-based company announced the immediate closing of its gym on 5th Street in Midtown, one of 26 metro-area locations. The next day, a gunman stormed an aerobics class at one of the company’s fitness centers in suburban Pittsburgh and killed three people.
The closure of the gym near Georgia Tech comes just weeks after a parking deck that served it suffered a partial collapse. In an Aug. 3 letter to customers, the gym directed them to its facility inside Atlantic Station. But the company provided no details about the surprise closing, no doubt inconveniencing gym-pumped gay boys who called the 5th Street facility home.
“We sincerely regret that we are unable to continue to make the Midtown club available to you. Unfortunately, due to events that were out of our control, we are not able to continue to provide you with the type of facility and service at Midtown that you have come to expect from us. We hope you will visit the nearby Atlantic Station club soon to see all that it has to offer. We are confident you will enjoy the club and look forward to seeing you there soon.”
