Gay Atlanta’s best New Year’s Weekend events

Out with the old and in with the new. No place is quite like a local LGBT New Year for events. Weigh your options as our people come out of the woodwork to party on Atlanta’s playground.

Thursday, Dec. 31

Gatsby with DJ Manny Lehman (top photo). The circuit DJ you know and love returns to move your booty to the beat with a 1920s theme of gold, silver and black. Phoenix holds court @ Jungle, 10 p.m.

Genesis White Party. DJ Phil B flies in to kick your New Year’s Eve into overdrive. You and the venue draped in casual white, Angelica D’Paige on the midnight countdown, Fort Troff in the house, and all to benefit Ready 4 Hope @ Heretic, 10 p.m.

Michelle Malone. The local lesbian blues rocker who gets all the girlies to the yard slays a NYE set @ Eddie’s Attic, 10p.m.

New Year’s Eve Ball. A balloon drop for cash and prizes, plus a champagne toast, are just the beginning of 2016 @ Ten, 10 p.m.

Playboi Mansion. If Hef’s house was gay, this is what you’d get. Boys in tails and ears, and men in loungewear being naughty @ BJ Roosters, 10 p.m.

Pennies from Heaven. The annual blowout with big money in the balloon drop, a midnight toast and a 2015 video countdown to the New Year @ Blake’s, 10 p.m.

Balls Drop Ball. Remember when Baby New Year’s balls dropped? Sure ya do. Party to the beat with the leather crowd @ Atlanta Eagle, 9 p.m.

NYE 2016. Party favors, free champagne, free parking and more @ Burkhart’s, 10 p.m.

Nekkid New Year. The all-male, all-nude dancers you love are working overtime for the holiday with specials and surprises to delight you @ Swinging Richards, 10 p.m.

Las Mas New Year’s Ball. Add a DJ and drink specials to the food at this gay Atlanta mainstay, and it’s a party @ Las Margaritas, 8 p.m.

New Year’s Masquerade. Dinner and a show was already amped when this drag venue came on the scene. Put NYE on top, and watch it explode @ Lips, 8 p.m.

Attack of the New Year’s Eve Party Monster. Get down to East Atlanta for a free-for-all that’s free. DJ 5 Hour Boner on the decks, and free midnight champagne @ Mary’s, 9 p.m.

Decay/Decadence. The left-of-center Wussy crew and THINKU throw 2015 to the dogs with performances, installations, drag hosts and a dance party that celebrates the end of the old and the start of the new @ 368 Ponce, 10 p.m.

New Year’s Eve Bash welcomes 2016 with no cover and plenty of surprises @ Amsterdam, 8 p.m.

Ladies Night. The lesbian blowout you’ve been dreaming of comes with DJs Rapko and Liz Owen, champagne, breakfast and more @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

Alex Cohen All Nighter. When the other parties wane, this one heats up until the sun shines @ Xion, 3 a.m. – 7 a.m.


Friday, Jan. 1

New Year’s Day Party (second photo). Don’t go to bed, silly. The party is just getting started with DJ Morabito @ Heretic, 6:30 a.m. – 12 noon.

Disco Hangover. Amateur hour is over, but even the experts may feel a little extra this night. Come get over it @ Mary’s, 9 p.m.

Pump. The weekly man-on-man dance party, this week with DJ Sean Mac @ Heretic, 10 p.m.

The Other Show. A weekly drag cabaret with an eclectic cast tries to keep you guessing @ Jungle, 9:30 p.m

Deadly Vixens puts the grrls on display for your entertainment and your dollars, plus Second Level beats upstairs @ Blake’s, 9 p.m.

Glitz & Glam Dinner Theater. Charlie Brown, the undisputed Bitch of the South and her gurlz entertain with dinner and a show amid the fancy theater experience of Atlanta’s premiere drag restaurant and bar. Make Reservations @ Lips Atlanta, 6 p.m., 9 p.m. and the Taboo Show at 11:30 p.m.

Femme Fatale puts the drag glamazons on display each week. Get your singles ready for premiere Atlanta queens @ Burkhart’s, 11 p.m.

Friday Night Dance Party. Another weekly way to kick off your weekend just hit 10th Street. See what you can get into @ G’s, 10 p.m.

Ladies Lounge. Get your lesbian weekend started with a DJ-driven dance party, live performances and scores of women in the new Midtown home of Atlanta lesbian nightlife @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.

Chaparral Night turns up the volume on its weekly gay Latin party with stage shows and dancing into the wee hours @ Club Rush, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.


Saturday, Jan. 2

DJ Martin Fry (third photo). Having the new year fall on a weekend is just another opportunity to dance. By all means, do so @ Jungle, 10:30 p.m. Get there early for the Fantasy Girls show, 9 p.m.

#Daydrunk. Drink specials put you to bed early or make you the life of tonight’s party @ Mary’s, 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. Do it, and you may not remember what you did during the Village Queens' first Gurlfrandz show of the year, 10 p.m.

New Year New Man Dating. Gay singles have it tough, and Better Way To Meet wants to help. Interactive activities give guys an opportunity to meet other, well-suited guys in a fun environment @ The New Anchor Down Grille & Lounge, 8 p.m.

Country All Night. Scoot your boots with the C&W gays @ Heretic, 8 p.m.

Glitz & Glam with Charlie Brown. The self-titled Bitch of the South and her girls entertain with dinner and a show in the theater experience of Atlanta’s drag restaurant and bar. Make reservations @ Lips Atlanta, 6 p.m., 9 p.m. and the Taboo Show at 11:30 p.m. 

Synergy turns up the volume on Saturday night and blows your ever-loving mind with glamazons working for your dollars @ Burkhart's, 11 p.m.

GlitterBomb werqs Saturday night with a drag show hosted by Edie Cheezburger, a cast of premiere queens and special guests @ Blake’s, 10 p.m.

Ladies Night. Atlanta’s lesbian dance party puts on a show to supplement its weekly womyn ways in a new Midtown location @ My Sister’s Room, 9 p.m.


Sunday, Jan. 3

Sunday Funday (bottom photo). DJs Rob Reum and Robert Ansley give you the inside-outside weekend closing party that you so deeply desire @ Ten Atlanta, 5 p.m. – midnight.

Drag Gospel Brunch presents the Sisters of Sequins with Bubba D. Licious at the wheel while you eat @ Lips, 12:30 p.m. Walk-ins welcome. Or sleep in and do Dinner with the Divas, 6:30 p.m.

High Energy & Cell Block Sunday. Get to gettin' with DJ Bill Berdeaux, 3 p.m., then the Cell Block drag show with Raquell Lord, Shawnna Brooks, Nicole Paige Brooks and Taejah Thomas @ Blake's, 8 p.m.

The Armorettes. Those local camp crazies throw down their weekly show for tips against HIV/AIDS in Atlanta @ Hideaway, 8 p.m.

Tossed Salad. The magic and madness masterminded by Brigitte Bidet, her left-of-center queens, and DJ King Atlas rock this weekly drag show and dance party @ Burkhart’s, 9 p.m.
