Hundreds of people crowded a Midtown intersection on Wednesday afternoon to celebrate hours after the Supreme Court struck down a federal marriage ban and cleared the way for same-sex unions in California.

Day of Decision was one of a handful of demonstrations organized across Georgia to mark the historic day. In Atlanta, that meant LGBT activists, elected officials and a handful of Atlanta police officers crowding the sidewalks around the intersection of 10th Street and Piedmont Avenue. Many with creative slogans on signs -- "WOOHOO Y'all," "Ginsburg Is My Homegirl," "Wedding Bells R Ringing" and "No More H8" -- cowbells and bullhorns. And more than a few with cocktails from nearby gay hotspots 10th & Piedmont and Ten.

Elected officials who joined the rally included state Rep. Karla Drenner, a lesbian, and Atlanta City Council member Alex Wan, who is gay. City Council member Kwanza Hall also attended. Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy wasn't invited.
