Gay Atlanta politican robocalls for her partner

If you’re one-half of a gay political power couple in Atlanta, how can you support your partner’s run for elected office? Nothing says love like a 30-second robocall.

Joan Garner’s been down this political path before. She became the first openly gay person elected to the Fulton County Commission in 2011 as her partner, attorney Jane Morrison, stood by her side.

Now, Morrison is seeking office on Tuesday and hopes to become a Fulton County State Court judge. She’s been endorsed by Georgia Equality and Atlanta Stonewall Democrats and thanks to a new 30-second automated call, Garner is backing her, too. (Listen in the above video.)

“I’m calling you and your neighbors to ask you to join me in voting for Jane Morrison for State Court Judge. Jane’s fair and honest and will do a great job for everyone and Fulton County,” Garner says in the call, which was distributed to voters in Fulton County on Sunday.

Garner touts Morrison’s experience as a prosecutor and attorney, though she doesn’t disclose that the two have been partners for 13 years.

Not to be outdone by Garner, Morrison distributed her own robocall on Monday. Morrison, who became an assistant solicitor in Sandy Springs last year, faces Fulton County Magistrate Melynee Leftridge in the nonpartisan race on Tuesday. Can you imagine the pillow talk if Garner’s endorsement went the other way?
