It’s been nearly two years since gay Atlanta’s own Carlos Manuel was eliminated from Food Network’s “Worst Cooks in America.” Now a much more somber turn in a short film project puts him back on our radar and shows some of his previously unrevealed talents. An early favorite on “Cooks” who got the boot just one episode before the finals, Manuel indeed learned to cook – and learned that for all reality stars, the secret ingredient is duct tape to get other contestants to shut the fuck up. Now he teams up with another enterprising local, SkinnyBoi Production’s Antione Mercury, for “Today” (video above), a moving coming out story Manuel wrote, stars in and co-directed. Keep an eye out for the northbound MARTA train to Doraville and other local spots in the artfully shot short with a powerful lesson: One day, it might be too late to come out, and sometimes regrets can last forever.
