Gay Atlanta artist Patrick Hanson (top image) showed off his latest works of abstract expression with a sculptural twist during a reception and show on Saturday that also benefited Joining Hearts.
The title, “Dips of Depression,” belied the guts of the show, which was bathed in rich colors and texture that offered another deep look into Hanson's talents. He described the new work to us ahead of the show as “painting blurred with sculpture.”
“Every show, I try and build on things I’ve done and take it to a new place where I have not been, and also build on things that I didn’t take far enough,” he says. “Shows often resonate where I am in my life as well, and wanted it to be a play on words. I have been thinking a lot of social issues of health and wellness and how depression’s highs and lows affect so many – how our mental states are so layered and complex.”
Hanson partnered with Joining Hearts for the show, donating a portion of proceeds to the non-profit that raises funds for HIV charities.
