Friends rock Ria Riot to honor fallen chef Pell

When you’re very nearly all cried out, there’s one thing left to do. Less than a month after the loss of gay Atlanta’s own Ria Pell, friends and family honored her memory as she would have wanted–with a rockin’ party in her honor.

Ria Riot! Queers, Punks, DJs and Eats! packed the floor of Variety Playhouse on Friday to give the grieving a celebration of Pell’s life. The event featured performance art, live bands, DJs, food, a raffle, silent auction and commemorative merchandise. Pell’s partner, family and hundreds of friends raised many a glass and shed a few more tears over the local queer organizer, lesbian owner of Ria’s Bluebird, and winning “Chopped” TV chef.

Pell died suddenly last month. Her death sparked an emotional public outpouring of grief and sympathy
