The National Flag Football League of Atlanta, which recently closed out its spring-summer season, did what many jocks do to celebrate the off-season: Drink beer. But this beer bust had a purpose in mind.
The gay sports league is sending two teams to Gay Bowl X in Phoenix in early October, so Sunday’s beer bust at Frogs was an effort to raise funds to offset the cost of the tournament and travel. The league hopes to improve its performance from past Gay Bowls, where they finished 10th out of 19 teams last year and ended their championships runs in similar fashion in 2007 and 2008.
The league wrapped up its season July 10 when the Blake’s Broncos defeated the Wood’s Wildcats 12-6 for the season championship. The next day, the league hosted its annual Award Party & Social with an afternoon at Blake’s.
The season opened in March and included two teams competing in the Chicago Pride Bowl III in June.
