The table designs ranged from “Steel Magnolias” to Beach Blanket Bingo and Eve’s Apple, highlighting the toast of First MCC’s Charity Ball on Saturday.
Some 17 table captains worked to make their tabletops rise to the occasion, which is an annual event raising funds to benefit the gay church’s outreach programs and charities. Organizers say the proceeds go directly to First MCC’s Compassion Ministries—food bank, clothing closet, Dinner for the Hungry & Homeless and Do Unto Others Outreach—as well as to its Community Center for non-profits, and to its inclusive worship and prayer services.
About 150 people attended the event, making the trek to Killian Hall in Lilburn for hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, dinner and dancing.
The table designs also included the Royal House of Orange, a design from Robert Mixon (second photo left) inspired by the royal family of the Netherlands. Mixon, the partner of First MCC Senior Pastor Paul Graetz (second photo right), included hand-painted 14-carat gold glass chargers and sterling silver flatware.
The church, located on North Druid Hills Road near Interstate 85, recently celebrated its 39th anniversary.
