Fiesta caliente: Cinco de Mayo in gay Atlanta

Add this share

imageWith gay bars and restaurants tripping over their cojones to serve up a festive Cinco de Mayo, chances are your favorite place is in on the action. And this year, the day calls for a big gay double party for one local favorite.

Oscar Valdivieso (photo, center), the gay co-owner of Las Margaritas with his mom, also celebrates the restaurant’s fifth anniversary on Wednesday with Cinco de Mayo Double Fiesta. The event takes place at his eatery during the dinner rush with an afterparty at the Heretic.

Start early with a real, complete Mexican fiesta at Las Margaritas, then use a free shuttle service to a special Wednesday edition of Papi’s Café Con Leche Latin Tribal House at the Heretic. The shuttle is also available to return you to your car.

The Double Fiesta includes $4 well drinks and beer bucket specials, as well as performances by DJ Karlitos, Sonique, Karime and Alexia Markova. The restaurant party starts at 6 p.m., and the bar party starts the Latin House beats at 10 p.m.

Valdivieso, also known weekly as “Papi” of Thursdays’ Papi’s Café Con Leche and Crazy Bitch Bingo, Sundays’ Papi’s Brunch, and Mondays’ Crazy Bitch Karaoke, says that being part of gay Atlanta is special to him and his mom.

“We thank our community—gay, straight, Spanish, white, everybody—for keeping us in business and enjoy very much being involved in all our communities,” he says. “Our philosophy in life and business is ‘Always give back and you will receive.’ Mama has always taught me the best lesson: the joy of helping and giving is good for your life and your business.”

Gracias, Papi.
