Fast Break: What’s ahead in gay sports

TUESDAY: The Hotlanta Volleyball Association holds its weekly open play for intermediate and advanced players. Bring the knee pads. 7:30 p.m. at Agnes Scott College. Atlas Atlanta brings its gay bowlers to Midtown Bowl. 8:30 p.m.

WEDNESDAY: The new kid on the block, the Decatur Women’s Sports League, launches its bowling league at 6:30 p.m. at Suburban Lanes in, you guessed it, Decatur. The Hotlanta Soccer Association continues is winter season in the Atlanta Silverbacks Park League. The Blaze (1-0) play at 8:45 p.m. with the Heat (0-1) following at 9:20 p.m. at Silverbacks Park. Boys & Girls of Fall takes to the lanes of Midtown Bowl. 8:40 p.m.

THURSDAY: The lesbians in Decatur are at it again, this time with a new basketball league. Tip-off is 7 p.m. at the Decatur High School gym.

FRIDAY: Interested in learning the basics of volleyball? Tonight is the night for the Hotlanta Volleyball Association’s open play for recreational players. 7:30 p.m. at Agnes Scott College. The Atlanta Team Tennis Association also offers its “Friday Night Drills” at Glenlake Tennis Center. 6 p.m. Friends Friday makes bowling a little gay at Midtown Bowl. 6:30 p.m.

SATURDAY: Quicksilver Country Dancers celebrates a year of providing monthly, gender-free American folk dances for gay and lesbians who like contra. 7:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta. The Atlanta Team Tennis Association offers open play for doubles. 1 p.m. at Glenlake Tennis Center.

SUNDAY: Rise early for morning drills with the Atlanta Team Tennis Association. 9:30 a.m. at Glenlake Tennis Center. The Lambda bowling league begins at 1:30 p.m. Midtown Bowl. Or take a break from gay sports for the day and head to FanFest, a two-day convention for Atlanta Braves junkies at the Georgia World Congress Center. The event runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
