Ethan puts the ‘X’ in Britain’s ‘X-Factor’

imageHoping to create the same YouTube sensation that made Susan Boyle an early favorite, Simon Cowell’s “X-Factor” is circulating a video clip of a smokin’ hot American who — oh yeah — can also sing.

A 19-year-old hopeful for the next season of the singing competition, Ethan Boroian (top photo) is originally from Chicago and began playing guitar at age 13. Yeah, we understand the implications of our dirty minds when we realize that was only six years ago.

The starving artist now living in London wowed the judges with Kings of Leon’s hit “Use Somebody” during the audition, and stole a few gay hearts along the way. He’s even pulling a Madonna and letting an English accent creep through. On him, it works.

We agree with gay icon Dannii Minogue, one of the judges, who said demurely, “A little superstar. We need another slice of that.”

Simon clung to understatement when it came to praise with a simple, “You’re through. Well done.”

But if that smart ass thinks he can recreate the phenomenon that was Susan Boyle by pimping a cute boy instead of a hag … well, yeah, it worked. Ethan’s audition video garnered more than a quarter-million hits in a few hours, and is inching quickly toward 700,000 on Thursday. He has 2,000 followers on Twitter and counting.

imageEthan recently told online fans that he never auditioned for “Idol” back home because he was afraid. We guess busking for Underground fare changed his mind.

Simon probably held back because he went out on a limb on the show four weeks ago, declaring Danyl Johnson’s audition (bottom photo) “the best first audition I have ever heard.” With a head start in the YouTube race, his hits are topping 6 million. Damn those marketing ploys that work!

Both contestants are hot, but we give the singing nod to Danyl. Both are also a hell of a lot easier on our eyes than Susan Boyle, talent notwithstanding.
