WSB radio host and Fox pundit Erick Erickson sometimes serves his anti-gay rhetoric with a little humor or creativity. But with his most recent rant against transgenders, he jumps the shark into pure mean-spirited nastiness, sinking to a new low even for him.
The latest from the Atlanta-based pundit came last week as voters in Houston easily repealed the city's non-discrimination measure. The city's Equal Rights Ordinance protected 15 classes of people – including LGBTs – from discrimination, but opponents boiled it down to one misleading, transphobic argument: “No men in women's restrooms.”
Erickson parroted the bigotry before the Nov. 3 vote in “Houston, Vote No Today on Proposition 1”:
Houston, TX voters will today go to the polls to decide a simple question: should men be able to use the women’s bathroom?
The BLT&G community would have you believe the issue is more complicated than that, but that is it in a nutshell. Proposition 1 is being pushed by an aggressive lobby that is perfectly happy for deviants, criminals, liars, the mentally ill, and the confused to use a bathroom of the opposite sex if they can say, with a straight face, that they are the opposite sex.
And in a victory lap after in “Perverts and the Mentally Ill Lose in Houston, Tx.”:
In Houston, TX, perverts and the mentally ill worked together with the gay rights lobby to let men use women’s bathrooms. They called anyone who disagreed with them “bigots.” They harassed preachers. The Mayor of Houston, an aggressive gay rights activist, demanded preachers’ hand over their sermons.
Tonight, the people of Houston fought back and rejected the attempt to allow perverts, the mentally ill, liars, and others who want to get in to opposite sex bathrooms.
Christians and common sense won. Perverts, the mentally ill, and the gay rights mob lost.It remains unscientific that men can be women and women can be men. But it has become an article of faith to the supposedly pro-science left — an article of faith rejected by the people of Texas.
Erickson, Atlanta's best anti-gay hater, has questioned the mental health of transgender people before. And he's used his perch on WSB and Fox to offer that gays will breed themselves out of existence, label gays terrorists, complain that the gay mafia lynched a fire chief, blame fat lesbians for Ebola and be a dick to gay Boy Scouts.
