Emory openly embraces its gay students like the drunk guy at closing time who wants to score with anyone left that’s got a pulse. Two new rankings of campus gayness show just how much, which really ought to help the school’s new Manhunt-like site in the making. The Daily Beast unveiled a whole bunch of listicles on Monday, including the Top 25 most Gay-Friendly campuses in the nation. Ranking at a slightly disappointing No. 16 is Emory, the only Georgia school on the list. Too bad Emory didn’t also make the Beast’s list of Horniest schools, which could have made life a little more fun for LGBT students this fall. Welcome back to campus, you not so horny gays! But we know how gay students are overachievers and the gays at Emory are no different. So before you get your rainbow flags in a knot, consider this: Emory fared much better in the recent ratings from Campus Pride’s LGBT-Friendly Campus Climate Index. In fact, the school is among 33 across the U.S. that scored a perfect, rainbow-colored A – twice as many as received the rainbow sash of honor in 2010. "Unlike other commercially-driven rankings, our ratings are done for and by LGBT people and set in a foundation of solid research practice,” Campus Pride Executive Director Shane Wind Meyer says in releasing the ratings. Take that, Daily Beast. Emory is the only campus in Georgia to score a perfect five-star for gay-friendliness. Campus Pride rates schools across eight LGBT areas: policy inclusion, support and institutional commitment, academic life, student life, housing, campus safety, counseling and health, and recruitment and retention efforts. Emory fell just short – 4.5 stars out of 5 – in policy inclusion (thanks for the shout out, Emory President James Wagner), academic life (their office of LGBT Life is being overrun by the gays), and housing and resident life. It scored 4 of five stars for campus safety. An anti-gay assault will do that. Emory shamed the other seven campuses across the state included in the Campus Climate Index. Even Agnes Scott in Decatur – yes, that one – managed 4 of 5 stars. The same as Kennesaw State University in Marietta. Really. Others include the University of Georgia (3.5), Georgia Gwinnett College (3), Southern Polytechnic State University (1.5), Clayton State University (1.5) and Valdosta State University (1.5)
