June's Stonewall Week slate of events hasn’t even started yet, but Atlanta Pride is so excited about its October festival that it's already touting the details of its Oct. 7 kickoff party at the Georgia Aquarium, including a guest appearance by “Ru Paul’s Drag Race” alum Jujubee.
In addition to our favorite finalist in Season 2 of the Logo show (top photo), the event will feature the thumping sounds of DJ Corey Craig (second photo), an international gay sensation with creds including the White Party in Palm Springs and the legendary Fire Island parties. Double-teaming with Craig at the Pride kickoff is Atlanta’s own DJay McCracken.
It’s the Pride party’s third consecutive year at the aquarium, which has proved to be the magic touch that turns the event into a total rainbow blowout of celebration with thousands of guests. View pics from last year’s shindig.
“APC views the Georgia Aquarium as an important partner, and we are so pleased that we can welcome residents and visitors alike to the world’s largest Aquarium for this wonderful event celebrating the LGBT community,” says JP Sheffield, executive director of Atlanta Pride, in a prepared statement.
Jujubee performs in the aquarium’s Oceans Ballroom before sashaying over to host her own aptly named Jujubee Lounge.
Tickets to the Pride Kickoff Party are on sale now online. Go get yours, because for the third year in a row at the aquarium, it’s dang-near guaranteed to sell out.
It looks to be a good start to the October Pride weekend (unless you’re celebrating Yom Kippur that night). The festival itself is set for Oct. 8 and 9 in Piedmont Park, with some events moved, adjusted or supplemented to make sure LGBT Jews can participate in as many Pride events as possible.
