It was a busy weekend for DJ Vicki Powell. After a quick warmup at the GA Voice’s Best of Atlanta Party, she headed to the Sound Table on Friday for her signature Boombox party.
The local lesbian legend, who just wants to have fun and bring revelers along for the ride, hit the Old Fourth Ward full-tilt with her “wall of sound,” and her faithful followers were ready, willing and waiting. As usual, the gays mixed with the straights, the guys with the gals, and the diehards with the gawkers.
In March, Boombox debuted (view photos) as the replacement to Powell’s infamous Flux party series. The new name comes with the same “Get Into It!” attitude that has become synonymous with Powell’s vibe.
But the party weekend was far from over for Powell. After moving the dancing shoes into the night on Friday, she introduced her new weekly Sunday T Rooftop Pool Party at the Melia Hotel.
After a wildly successful Fourth of July event there (view photos), Powell will now alternate Sundays for the rest of the summer with DJ Mike Bradley and DJ Diablo Rojo pumping tunes by the pool high atop downtown’s newest boutique hotel.
