There are few issues upon which every gay in town has ever agreed, but one has to be that the annual Diana Foundation continues to outlast all of them. Houston came together again on Saturday to keep LGBT hope and the Diana Awards alive.
Long before the modern civil rights movement and even before the word “gay” meant what it does today, Houston homos were gathering for the biggest gay gala show in town every year. The event born during the McCarthy era remains the oldest active gay charity organization in the country with roast-awards of its members, black-tie fabulosity, open bar, raffles, a three-course dinner and over-the-top entertainment.
The 2015 event went down at the St. Regis Hotel with Mix 96.5 FM host Chad Pitt, who knows how to make an entrance (top photo). He gets around. A lot. Guests also included Houston City Council candidate Lane Lewis and Pride Houston grand marshal nominee Bob Briddick. The 2015 Diana beneficiaries are the Botts Collection, the John Danielson III Memorial Scholarship Fund, Lazarus House, Lesbian Health Initiative of Houston, and UH LGBTQ Resource Center.
