Cowtippers delivers cheaper meat to Midtown

imageWrapping your hands around some meat in Midtown just got a little cheaper.

Cowtippers, a mainstay of gay Atlanta since 1993, unveiled its revamped kitchen and reworked menu, which offers more budget-minded fare thanks to the continuing recession. Burgers got reduced to 4-ounce patties with a $5 base price.

The menu also pays homage to two other Midtown mainstays — drag personalities Bubba D. Licious (photo) and Mary Edith Pitts — by offering burgers in their name. Bubba’s burger includes chili, slaw, diced onion and pickles. The one for Pitts, though, is made for the big girl that she is, packing three patties with grilled onion, bacon, provolone and a special sauce. It comes with a full-sized price, too — $10.

Cowtippers closed for three days last week to make the renovations, re-opening Thursday with the changes in place. Metrotainment CEO Jeff Landau says it was well past time to refocus the menu and redo the kitchen.

“The kitchen was long overdue for a renovation and the poor shape of the economy made us decide to give the menu new direction,” Landau says in a prepared statement. “We wanted a burger that had a very low price point, so the 4-ounce patty allows us to offer it at $5 for a base price.”
