CoCo Peru brings ‘Trick’ to Out On Film

The first time many saw drag legend CoCo Peru was when she played a jealous, hilarious bar queen in the gay classic “Trick.” She brings a retrospective screening of the movie to Atlanta’s 25th anniversary LGBT film festival.

Out On Film announced Peru’s Oct. 10 appearance and the screening on Tuesday as part of its continued rollout of its lineup. “Trick” (trailer above) is the first of a few retrospective films honoring the festival’s silver anniversary to be announced. Out On Film’s centerpiece screenings of new material are also out of the bag.

In “Trick,” Peru makes a lasting impression in her role as the bitter queen sniping at Christian Campbell over his (hot) stripper love interest played by J.P. Pitoc. The performer, who has gone on to appear in cult films like “Girls Will Be Girls” as well as other drag roles on the big and small screens, is responsible for some of “Trick’s” most popular one-liners. The Out On Film crowd is sure to be repeating Peru lines like “It burns!” and “It’s big; it’s beautiful; and you’re gonna love it.”

Peru and “Trick” Director Jim Fall will answer questions from the audience after the screening, then head over to an Out On Film afterparty at Mixx. The following night, Peru takes the stage at Mixx at 8 p.m. with her one-woman show.

“I am excited to not only have the great Coco in town but to share her with Mixx Atlanta,” says Jim Farmer, Out On Film’s festival director. “’Trick’ is a very popular gay romantic comedy and we look forward to having Coco and Jim Fall talk to our audience about it.”

Coco Peru, Jim Fall and “Trick” bow at Out on Film on Oct. 10 at 9:15 p.m. with a subsequent Q&A at Midtown Art Cinema and an afterparty at Mixx Atlanta. “Trick” tickets will be available online soon through Out on Film. Tickets to Peru’s stage show at Mixx Atlanta on Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. will be available at the bar.
