Vote to help gay Georgia couples win wedding cash

The marriage equality train is moving, though a local station isn't around the bend just yet. But you can help three Georgia gay couples win $5,000 toward the ceremony of their dreams.

The contest for the cash comes courtesy the gay-lovin lefties at the ACLU. In My Big Gay Illegal Wedding, the organization wants to call even more attention to the inequality of marriage equality in states like ours across the country. To that end, they will foot the first five grand’s worth of wedded bliss for the five gay couples who get the most online votes. That’s where you come in.

At least three of the couples vying for the prize are in marriage bigoted Georgia. Atlanta wedding-bound Manny and Tom (photo) are executing a full-court press on social media for support.

Our sexual orientation became an issue when we found The Georgian Club and loved it as our venue. The day of the signing we received a request to meet with the chief operating officer. This meeting became one of the worst days when they told us GA does not legally observe our marriage and this became the crutch used to deny our ceremony. The Club did not want to take a risk on our “little ceremony”, and this shook us immensely. So easily a large group was able to write us off. Not only did we have to sit there and hear such awful rhetoric, but they pointed to the law to deny our wedding.

Read more about their story, then go vote for them early and often through Feb. 16.

Keep your click-tivist finger engaged to vote for other Georgia couples wanting your online love, too. They include Lauren and Chelsea as well as Genniene and Latisha. You can also view and vote on all of the couples. You've already proved you can do it, and that it feels this good to claim victory.
