If traffic at the heart of the gayborhood seemed a little mucked up Sunday afternoon, blame it on best-selling author and TV host Chelsea Handler and her hundreds of fans.

The host of E!’s “Chelsea Lately,” Handler was in Atlanta to sign her new book, “Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang,” and perform her stand up routine at the Fox Theatre.

But it was her early afternoon appearance at Outwrite Bookstore & Coffeehouse that packed in the fans. Hundreds of them, in fact, that snaked outside the store at 10th Street and Piedmont Avenue, around the corner and well past the entrance to Blake’s.

The mixed crowd — both gay and straight fans follow the New Jersey-born Handler — often spilled into the street, causing passing drivers to rubberneck. Even RuPaul didn’t attract a crowd this big when she worked it at Outwrite last month.
