imageIf you’re a gay in need of a job or one looking to make a change, the Atlanta Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce is making your selection process a bit easier.

How? The gay business group recently toasted Atlanta-based companies and those with a presence in the metro area for notching a perfect score of 100 on the Corporate Equality Index from the Human Rights Campaign. In other words, the chamber slapped a big rainbow sticker on their front doors. Figuratively, of course.

imageThe equality toasting came Nov. 17 as part of the AGLCC’s WOW Wednesday at the Four Seasons in Midtown. Of the 337 businesses that achieved the top score, 11 are based in Atlanta: Alston & Bird, Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola Enterprises, Cox Enterprises, Delta Air Lines, ING North America Insurance Corp., Newell Rubbermaid, Sun Trust Banks, Sutherland Asbill & Brennan, Troutman Sanders and United Parcel Service.

HRC’s annual report draws its rankings from several factors, including whether non-discrimination policies and diversity training include sexual orientation and gender identity, health insurance is transgender inclusive and offers domestic partner benefits, the presence of LGBT employee groups and diversity councils, and public engagement.

imageHow did other Atlanta-based companies fare in the rankings? Some — Chamberlin Edmonds & Associates (53), Mirant (45) and Southern Co. (68) – stink. Others — Columbus-based AFLAC and metro Atlanta companies Agco, Asbury Automotive Group and Genuine Parts Co. — couldn’t be bothered to respond to HRC’s questions.

But others did better, including EarthLink (88), Home Depot (85), InterContinental Hotels Groups Americas (85), Kilpatrick Stockton (95), King & Spalding (95) and McKenna, Long & Aldridge (80).
