The gay owned bar Sister Louisa’s Church of the Living Room & Ping Pong Emporium is no longer the quirky, well-kept Old Fourth Ward secret that it once was. After a Gaga sighting and national press, the celebrity guest list is growing.
Once a haven just for the cool kids and those in the know at its opening in January, “Church” is hitting the broader radar hard these days.
Even as the alternaqueers gathered for events like DJ Vicki Powell’s Sunday party series (view photos), owner Grant Henry (photo) told us about a suprise drop-in by Lady Gaga and her “Vampire Diaries” man back in September. A New York Times travel piece featured the nightspot earlier this month. Now Creative Loafing is reporting more celebrity sightings as well as another slice of national exposure for the hotspot.
Will Forte (SNL), Jonah Hill,Marisa Tomei and Vince Vaughn have all been recent patrons. The bar is being featured in a TBS show “Trends with Benefits,” and it appears the name should be elongated further to include “Celebrity Sanctuary.”
