Buy me some pinot and cabernet

When hitting the Ted to watch the Atlanta Braves, I can unequivocally state that I’ve never wished for a glass of wine to sip while watching the home team pummel their opponents.

Beer? Yes. Wine? Not quite.

Then it’s a good thing that I’m not the brains behind a new charity venture that pairs Tom Glavine, Chipper Jones and Brian McCann with inexpensive wine. I doubt that wine has ever touched the lips of Jones and McCann, but that’s not the point.

For $13 and beginning on Monday, you can buy a bottle of Cabernet Glavingnon, Chipper Chardonnay and McCann Merlot and raise funds for a trio of charities. The wine is made by California-based Clos LaChance Winery & Estate Vineyard and is part of a larger charity effort that includes more than 30 pro athletes.

About the Chipper Chardonnay:

This wine opens up with strong aromas of freshly cut green apple, melon and pear. A bowl full of tropical fruit salad (pineapples, bananas, mangos and papaya) is in there, as well as a hint of floral apple blossom.

McCann Merlot is described as “soft, lush and colorfull.” Soft is a good way to describe McCann these days, who seems to be edging past the 230 pounds listed on the Braves roster.

Cabernet Glavingnon goes something like this:

Aromas of warm blackberry cobbler with currant, black plum, fresh earth, herb, cedar and a hint of anise. Flavors of black cherry, blackberry, plum, mocha, spice and mineral with rips, firm tannin on the finish.

No word on whether Chipper Chardonnay and McCann Merlot will be offered in boxes instead of bottles. It just seems more fitting.
