Burglars struck the offices of Pets Are Loving Support late last month, stealing checks, donated items and cash from the non-profit that helps care for the pets of critically-ill LGBT people.
The thieves made their way past a crew of workers making repairs to the building, which sits on Liddell Drive near Cheshire Bridge Road, on May 25 and stole the laundry list of items, according to Jerry Friday (top photo, left), PALS board chair. Later that day, two women attempted to cash the stolen checks at a bank and when questioned by a manager at the financial institution, they fled.
No confidential information was taken in the burglary, according to Kevin Bryant, the group’s executive director.
“We are confident that the community will assist us in recovering from this unfortunate incident and services to our clients will not be interrupted,” Bryant (top photo, right) says in a press release.
PALS cares for the pets of critically-ill people in Atlanta. The group hosts a popular bingo event each month — including Urban Cowboy Bingo on Wednesday, June 9 — with drag hosts Bubba D. Licous (second photo) and Alexandria Martin, and crowned its new spokespet during the Pet Cotillion on May 2.
The PALS burglary marks the third strike against a gay or gay-friendly business in recent weeks: Frogs Cantina was the victim of a smash-and-grab on Monday and Swinging Richards was broken into last month.
