While the Atlanta Bucks gay rugby club eagerly awaited this week’s arrival of U.K. rugby stud Ben Cohen, the team joined Sunday’s bustling Grand Opening Weekend crowd at Cockpit for a barbecue beer bust.
By the time the Bucks arrived (top photo) for the late-afternoon cookout, Atlanta’s newest gay bar was already jumping. The team mixed right in with a few specials of their own — $10 bottomless beer, food, and raffles for tickets to the local Ben Cohen Acceptance Tour as well as other sporting and concert events, four bar tabs and specialty Cohen merchandise.
If you don’t know by now, Cohen hit Atlanta full-force this week for photo shoots, a haircut and even an impromptu rugby clinic with the Bucks (view photos). The team is Cohen’s official host for this stop on his U.S. tour raising money for the Ben Cohen StandUp Foundation anti-bullying charity.
The Cockpit has plenty of reasons of its own to celebrate, too. Starting with a Friday throw-down (view photos), the bar hosted three days of Grand Opening events. Saturday saw a packed house that included Hotlanta Softball League’s Atlanta Talons and more giveaways before wrapping up the celebration with the Bucks and its gaggle of happy new patrons.
The smoke-free venue offers 1,900-feet of newly designed rustic, industrial party space on Boulevard just south of Interstate 20.
