That didn’t take long. With the closure of Outwrite and an announcement that gay retailer Brushstrokes might step in to host authors at Mixx Atlanta, Brushstrokes confirms that they’re “immediately” scheduling authors.
Mark Jackson and Tom Schloeder (photo) of Brushstrokes have already contacted publishers to let them know that gay Atlanta is still open for business when it comes to welcoming LGBT and gay-adjacent authors.
Names of literati to grace the new events are being bandied about, but the store hasn’t confirmed who its first guests will be.
What is confirmed are plans for how the book signings will go at Mixx, one of the gay bars that shares the Ansley Square parking lot with Brushstrokes. The event area at the front of the space will be set with chairs for the appearances. Since Mixx is a bar, you must be 21 to attend the author events.
Brushstrokes offers books at 25 percent off of the publisher’s suggested retail price on hardcover titles and 20 percent off on paperbacks. Brushstrokes has sold books for many years, but decided to start the new venture to answer customer requests as well as several requests from book publishers.
A big plus for fans: The book will be available for sale, but you need not purchase the book at the event for autographing. By request of the publishers, only the author’s current book may be signed.
