Black Gay Pride delivers Pure Heat to Piedmont

Thousands of people flooded Piedmont Park on Sunday to celebrate Black Gay Pride with singers, elected officials, step shows and hair battles.

The Pure Heat Community Festival took the party outdoors for an all-day effort of picnicking, revelry, vendors and more. It's an annual tradition that always packs Piedmont, just like it did last year, in 2013 and the year before that.

Elected officials couldn't resist. State Rep. Keisha Waites, one of three lesbians in the Georgia legislature, joined Atlanta City Council President Caesar Mitchell in welcoming Black Gay Pride participants to Atlanta. State Sen. Vincent Fort also joined the event, a day before he hit the streets with LGBT activists for the Stand Up & Represent March.

Among the vendors at the park was Sheree Whitfield. The former “Real Housewives of Atlanta” cast member – caught in the middle of one of the biggest anti-gay scandals in the popular show's history – is apparently returning to RHOA this fall. So please don't confuse her with that dead drag queen.
