Megadaddy Bishop Eddie Long’s wife, Vanessa Long, has had enough of her husband’s gay sex shenanigans. On Thursday, she filed for divorce from her scandal-plagued husband.
It’s a 180-degree turn from just six months ago, when Vanessa Long channeled Tammy Wynette to stand be her man, despite allegations that Long used the marital compound for some of his trysts with young men.
She’s not the first woman to put some distance between herself and Long. Maybe it’s the continuing saga of lawsuits, several of the men throwing caution to the wind and risking their confidential financial settlements with Long to speak out, or his Wildchild lashing out. But Vanessa Long is over it.
“After a great deal of deliberation and prayer, I have decided to terminate my marriage to Bishop Eddie L. Long. Accordingly, I authorized my attorneys to file for divorce on December 1, 2011? Vanessa Long said in a statement released Friday.
Of course, the family – headed by a man who lives in the public spotlight – now wants privacy.
“It is my sincere hope that this matter can be resolved expeditiously, harmoniously, and fairly. I ask that you respect my privacy and that of my family, as my attorneys and I have agreed that we will not try this case in the media, and I do not intend to make any further statements concerning this matter,” Vanessa Long said.
UPDATE: Maybe not. Vanessa Long tells WSB that she’s “withdrawing her petition for divorce.”
UPDATE II:: Vanessa Long’s statement about divorcing and then not: “Upon prayerful reflection, I have reconsidered and plan to withdraw my petition for divorce from my husband, Bishop Eddie L. Long. I love my husband. I believe in him and admire his strength, and courage. My filing followed years of attacks in the media that frustrated and overwhelmed me. I love my family and church family, New Birth Missionary Baptist Church. Therefore, my husband and I have mutually agreed to find healing from these attacks. We ask that you respect our privacy during this time.”
